Beautiful Day was the first track I recorded with J.J. Brown. He gave me the beat almost a year before I actually got around to writing and recording the vocals. I knew what I wanted to accomplish with the song but I really struggled with the execution. I wanted it to be positive and uplifting but I didn't want it to be corny. It was some time before I let anyone hear what I came up with and that may have been why it took so long to commit to it. But in the end it worked out exactly how I wanted it.

The actual lyrics were mostly inspired by my wife, whom I had just met shortly after receiving the beat. Meeting her was inspirational and she brought so much positive energy into my life. I was coming out of a really dark funk and she really helped me overcome it and find my way into the light again.

The song was written and recorded before the election of President Obama, during the intense campaign and no one was sure what the outcome would be. Their are definitely lyrics within the song inspired by the times as well. While I don't agree with all of his actions to date, his words and ideas inspired a lot of hope and positivity and I wanted this song to capture that same energy.
