"One of the best HipHop albums of 2010"- Chuck D

This is the official, limited edition, autographed FEEL GOOD MUSIC cd digi-pack, and it comes with the limited edition RISE OF THE MACHINES ep featuring R.A. the Rugged Man and Chuck D from public Enemy (while supplies last).

ILLUS has been recording music and illustrating comics professionally since 1991 (selling over 250,000 records with no airplay or major label deal), recording and touring with such legends as Chuck D and Public Enemy, DJ Johnny Juice, R.A. the Rugged Man, Dilated Peoples and Blackalicious, and garnering praise from the likes of Wendy Day and numerous HIPHOP legends. But he has reached a whole new level of excellence with his new album- FEEL GOOD MUSIC produced by J.J. Brown.

Feel Good Music is a 7-song opus that displays the passion, soul and heart of the artist with a true feel-good HIPHOP vibe. ILLUS is not afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve as he raps about his love for his wife, family and friends as well as the microphone and the culture that inspired the man. FEEL GOOD MUSIC is more than just nostalgia or a dedication to all of the great HIPHOP pioneers, it is a true modern day classic that captures the essence of all that is good about HIPHOP music and brings it to light in the modern age.

about

I have been wanting to record this track forever. I am huge Meters fan and ever since I heard "Hey Pocky A-Way" off of their 1974 Rejuvenation album I knew I had to sample it. Even when I was recording more "darker" music, I knew that at some point I wanted to make a feel-good song with their chorus as the foundation. Interestingly enough, this album was released in 1974, the same year I was born and the same time period that HipHop began.

I am not one of those artists that likes to complain about the state of the music, the industry sucks but the music and related arts are doing just fine by me. How can I complain when artists like Brother Ali, J-Live, KRS, Public Enemy, De La Soul, Freddie Foxxx, Atmosphere, Gift of Gab, Lyrics born, and more are making such amazing music steadily? I did want to add to that great tradition though and pay homage to everyone that has inspired me.

The sad thing is though, many people are still unfamiliar with the artists I have mentioned and the ones that are "pop"ular, do often portray a negative imagery (in my opinion at leas). All too often I feel like the music of the masses just wants to tear the listener down, rather than lift them up. Growing up, HipHop was a feel-good music, it empowered us to want to be our best, to overcome obstacles and fight the negativity. Even "hardcore" artists like Kool G Rap, who were crafting amazing street crime tales, had a positive message. I wanted Feel Good Music to contribute and pay homage to that feeling that no matter who you are or where you come from, you can succeed, and most importantly you can do so without being negative or committing crimes.

FEEL GOOD MUSIC

Verse 1

This ain’t pop music for wannabe teen idols
It’s medicine for depressed suicidals
A release for the stressed feeling violent
Religion for the lost forsaken the bible
Never idle always evolving, ever changing
Rearranging styles, wild, never faking
Uncompromising self-empowering
Independent,
Underground, inventive, relentless
You can’t stop, won’t stop, we don’t quit
Build and destroy with each lyric we flip
And Rip beats to defeat the beast with a verse
Streets to the burbs,
Best to the worst,
Blessed to the cursed, it’s the truth for the youth
The strength to break loose, live free and cut the noose
It’s the fight for justice and equality,
Against all odds and probabilities
To realize our destiny

Verse 2

This is the latchkey child’s foster father
Black CNN, uniting the people through Black Power
White children rebelling against a system
Perpetrated by racist parents unwilling to change
This is music for the strange, anthems for outcasts
Lunatics deranged, ex-patriots without pasts
Runaway slaves and freedom fighters united
Artists with conscience, graffiti writers defiant
This is poetry for the downtrodden,
For the forgotten
Unlocking the mind from the body,
Rocking the party,
Uniting the world through beats and rhymes,
Awakening the criminal mind, giving sight to the blind
For the last in line, making it to the top
Amalgamations of blues, jazz, soul, funk and rock
Drums that don’t stop for skaters, gangstas and breakers
And lyrics that touch hearts making believers outta hatas

Verse 3

This is the positive overcoming negative
The strength of love over hate,
Forgiveness over vengeance
This is the soul of the artist’s passion of creation
Mastering a gift passed down through generations
War and peace, temptation unleashed
Feast or famine standing before god admitting your weak
This is the talent to think fast and talk slow
The balance of fact and fiction, style and flow
You against the world nothing’s impossible
Inspiration to make you feel Unstoppable
The beautiful struggle of life’s battle,
Taking it to the mats, proving you’re badder
Master your craft, no acting, no talk, only action
Rapping for freedom believing in you
By any means, do whatchya gotta do
To provide for your future and family
Without losing your soul, freedom or sanity
